Being an Odia, I have been exposed to the Ollywood or Odia Film Industry since the 90s. The movies Odia Industry made since last couple of decades hovered around recreation of famous or infamous south or Hindi movies. There is no doubt that there were some great movies also during this period. But this one movie DAMaN has changed my view for the future of Odia Movie Industry.
Thanks to a new generation of producers, actors and directors who are now at least giving importance to content rather than songs, romance and fight scenes. DAMaN is one of such movies Produced by Deependra Samal under the banner J P Motion Pictures, and directed by Vishal Mourya and Debiprasad Lenka. Babushan in the lead role has justified the character more than 100%.
The movie DAMaN is based on real life events of a doctor who conducted his duties selflessly and helped eradicate Malaria from the remote Malkanagiri district where there were no proper roads, no connectivity and no transportation. The plot is simple but was represented in such a way that is not at all boring and does not let you take your eyes off the screens. The movie beautifully portrays the scenic landscapes, tribal traditions, faiths, beliefs, superstition and provides an insightful view of their life. The movie DAMaN is a portrayal of faith, dedication, courage, and selfless service of a newly appointed doctor who took it as a mission to eradicate Maleria. The movie should be watched by everyone out there and especially for the young ones.
Since its release DAMaN is attracting comments and all the good reviews possible for a feature film. The producer and directors have enough courage to take on the challenges and create this masterpiece of Odia Movie Industry which can compete with any other Indian Movies. I have never seen an Odia Movie being sold out on Online Booking and even going houseful in almost every show, everyday that too with a very little spend on marketing and promotion. The team has created a great content and proved that content is the king and audiences do respect great content and story line. This attempt is commendable and requires encouragement for all.
Our film industry needs to showcase such great stories with focus on content, rather than fancy and unnecessary commercial stuff. It’s time for the Odia Film Industry to learn from its mistakes and create such masterpieces. It’s time to change according to the audience perspective, it’s time to give respect to content.
